The History of Pharmacy collection in Cluj-Napoca is one of the most charmful places in town. It appropriately presents the history of the discipline in one of the oldest apothecaries in Transylvania, preserving the structure of the rooms: the Officina, where drugs were sold, the most decorated, preserving the Baroque wall painting; the laboratory, reconstructed in the basement, and teo storage rooms for ingredients.

I hereby invite you to view my newly created shop on Esty, that includes artworks in various techniques (oil painting, acrylic painting, linocuts, and mixed techniques) and carved leather handmade items (wallets and card holders). Some of them are inspired by the province I was born, Transylvania (Romania). I confess I am now spending a lot of time posting, linking, and activating in teams, but it is fascinating place!

Tooled leather is a splendid medium of artistic expression. Besides the handicraft part (cutting, gluing, sewing), it also involves drawing, designing, and dying, which are challenging but rewarding for creative artists.

Ana-Maria Gruia's "About Torun"

This is a short video I made to show how inspiration works, from things one sees, to drawings, and final art works. The example focuses on one of my art projects, born after a visit to Poland's lovely medieval town of Torun, birthplace of Copernicus and the (disputed) home of gingerbread. Here is the result, a series of linocut works with graphic interventions, that were part of an exhibition in Cluj:

Un nou proiect: lupul dacic

One of my latest projects envisages the myth/icon of the Dacian draco - the legendary war standard of the ancient and fierce Dacians that was part wolf part snake. It was in fact described as something like a windsock, so that when the air passed through it it would make a terrible noise that was said to frighten the enemies. Nowadays it has become the symbol of patriotism and even nationalism, being turned into a modern icon. My project both admires the longevity of the motif and the ingenuity of its depictions throughout the ages.

Paintings for engineers

Joi, 20 septembrie 2012, vă invităm la vernisajul expoziţiei de pictură intitulate "Tablouri pentru ingineri" a Anei Maria Gruia. Evenimentul va avea loc în atelierul din Str. General Dragalina nr. 85, Cluj-Napoca, de la ora 19. 

           Proiectul expoziţional aduce în discuţie elementele formale care instaurează opera de artă, abordând polemic modalităţile de receptare şi înţelegere a artei de către publicul larg. Convenţiile artei sunt dezavuate ludic în cadrul unui vernisaj în care artistul se transformă atât în organizator cât şi în critic de artă, lămurind apoi pe deplin conceptul şi mizele proiectului.

Sâmbătă, 9 iunie, prezentam Teatrul de Umbre, cu “piesa” Perseu şi Medusa. Aşteptăm preşcolarii la Centrul Virtus Antiqua, de la ora 10.30 a.m., pentru un spectacol de ca. 20 min. Locurile sunt limitate, deci vă rugăm să ne daţi un telefon la 0741114389 pentru programare.

I've been introduced into the secrets of shadow theater during a workshop organized for museographers by the National Museums Network Association of Romania. I have thus co-opted a friend and we let our imagination roam wild on a topic related to Antiquity - the story of Perseus defeating the monster Medusa. The technical part was not easy, but the kids seemed delighted, so we deemed it a success.

Asociaţia apARTe vă invită în prima sâmbătă din fiecare lună să cotrobăiţi prin atelierul de pictură şi ceramică din str. Anatole France nr. 48, Cluj-Napoca.
Ana şi Viviana vă aşteaptă de la 11 la 18 cu lucrări mai vechi şi mai noi, unele chilipiruri, altele cam scumpe, cu tablouri, gravuri, sculpturi, bijuterii, figurine de ceramică, veioze, ghivece, magneţi, bijuterii, semne de carte, rame, oglinzi şi multe alte minunăţii.
Garage Arte Sale este o ocazie pentru vizitatori de a intra într-un atelier de artă, de a vedea procesul de creaţie şi tehnicile folosite şi de a cumpăra obiecte unicat direct de la artişti. Vă aşteptăm la atelier!

Shadow play - Perseus and Medusa

Sâmbătă, 2 iunie, lansăm Teatrul de Umbre, cu “piesa” Perseu şi Medusa. Aşteptăm preşcolarii la Centrul Virtus Antiqua, de la ora 10.30 a.m., pentru un spectacol de ca. 20 min. Locurile sunt limitate, deci vă rugăm să ne daţi un telefon la 0741114389 pentru programare. Spectacol de teatru de umbre pentru preşcolari (2-7 ani).

 PERSEU ŞI MEDUSA

V-am pregătit o poveste pe care o ascultau cu plăcere şi copii romani. Ea ne vorbeşte despre un erou lăudăros, un rege mustăcios, trei babe cu un singur ochi şi un monstru cu şerpi în păr. Este legenda lui Perseu şi a Medusei.
